The Electric Parking Brake has played a key role in the transition from mechanical to electronic systems, contributing to the broader shift towards fully brake-by-wire technology.

ZF Surpasses 250 Million mobility outlook

ZF has announced the production of 250 million Electric Parking Brake (EPB) units. This achievement cements ZF's position as an industry pioneer, having introduced EPB technology nearly 25 years ago with the motor-on-calliper brake. The technology is in its sixth generation continuing to enhance vehicle braking systems.

ZF’s EPB not only improves fuel efficiency by reducing the weight of brake systems but also integrates with other vehicle systems to provide advanced features such as two-wheel anti-lock emergency stops and simple, touch-button activation.

EPB offers dynamic actuation, brake pad wear sensing, and minimises the degradation typically associated with traditional mechanical systems. This innovation has advanced vehicle safety and driver convenience by offering enhanced control and performance.

In addition to its achievement with EPB, ZF has also produced over 500 million Integrated Park Brake (IPB) units, further consolidating its leadership in park brake systems. With more than three billion braking components sold over five decades, ZF remains at the forefront of automotive innovation, offering an extensive range of electronically controlled steering, braking, and damping systems.
