Yulu, India’s leading shared electric mobility company, has introduced the nation’s first WhatsApp-based Road Safety Learning Initiative for delivery riders, reinforcing its commitment to safe and sustainable urban mobility.
Since its launch, the initiative has engaged over 3,600 Yulu riders, who have completed the first safety module—including a traffic rules quiz—and earned the ‘Safe Rider Beginner’ badge. Over 1,200 riders have gone a step further by submitting video-based pledges to uphold traffic regulations, marking a significant step in fostering responsible riding behaviour among 30,000+ quick commerce and e-commerce delivery partners using Yulu’s shared electric vehicles (EVs).
A Tech-Driven Approach To Safer Streets
The WhatsApp-based safety module is a part of Yulu’s broader ‘3E’ framework—Education, Enforcement, and Ecosystem Partnerships—which integrates technology, processes, and industry collaborations to encourage compliance and address public concerns around hyperlocal delivery safety.
Inside Yulu’s 3E Safety Framework:
- Education: The learning initiative raises awareness about key violations—wrong-way riding, footpath usage, and signal jumping—through training videos, quizzes, and app-based nudges. Riders are encouraged to wear helmets and adhere to safe riding practices, even beyond legal mandates.
- Enforcement: A combination of Bike Marshals and AI-powered monitoring ensures compliance. Yulu’s smart EVs, developed in partnership with Bajaj Auto Ltd., feature wrong-way ride detection to track and restrict unsafe behaviour. Repeat violations result in fines and potential bans.
- Ecosystem Partnerships: Yulu collaborates with local traffic police, quick-commerce brands, and transport authorities to conduct Safe Rider Workshops and educate delivery personnel. In 2024 alone, over 1,100 riders have benefited from these sessions.
Looking ahead, Yulu is set to host a roundtable discussion with Bengaluru Traffic Police and key e-commerce players to develop industry-wide solutions for improving road safety.
Amit Gupta, Co-Founder & CEO of Yulu, stated: “Following traffic rules is every motorist’s responsibility. But as a company focused on making urban mobility better, Yulu goes the extra mile to educate and guide its riders. Safety is a continuous process involving multiple stakeholders—government bodies, gig platforms, and enforcement agencies. Our integrated approach not only enhances road safety but also empowers thousands of riders with sustainable livelihood opportunities.”
