Japanese automotive components giant Yazaki, a $17 billion global powerhouse with operations in 46 countries, has expanded its India footprint by adding a new manufacturing unit in Chennai, developed in collaboration with Horizon Industrial Parks, Blackstone’s logistics platform in India.
The new 3.16 lakh sq. ft. built-to-suit plant will be located at Horizon’s Chengalpattu Industrial Park, a rapidly growing hub near Chennai. Designed with sustainability and efficiency at its core, the facility will feature rooftop solar power and accommodate over 2,000 employees. Yazaki’s continued growth in India is driven by increasing demand for wire harnesses, a critical component supplied to a majority of the country’s OEMs.
Yazaki’s decision to work with Horizon stems from shared values around modernisation, quality infrastructure, and employee safety. The company also operates two other large facilities with Horizon—a 2.6 lakh sq. ft. plug-and-play plant in Hosur (established in 2023) and a similar-sized unit in Farukhnagar, NCR. Both parks hold Platinum ratings from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and are benchmarks for sustainability in industrial development.
P V Raju, CEO of Yazaki India, said, “After evaluating several industrial developers, we chose Horizon for their ability to deliver quality infrastructure on tight timelines. They handed over the Hosur facility in just six months, enabling us to meet critical customer commitments. Horizon’s clean, dust-free environments are essential for producing high-quality products, and we’re confident in the safety and comfort of our 4,200+ employees working in their parks.”
“With the new peripheral ring road connecting Chennai port, Chengalpattu is fast becoming a manufacturing powerhouse, attracting major players across automotive, electronics, and IT,” said Urvish Rambhia, Director at Horizon Industrial Parks. “This region is poised for significant industrial acceleration, further supported by upcoming infrastructure like the SIDCO industrial estate in Kodur Village.”
