As a result of a five-year global research and development programme, Apollo Tyres announced the launch of its first dedicated all-terrain tyre, the Vredestein Pinza in Europe.

Notably, the tyre was launched in the USA in 2021 and is one of only four all-terrain tyres to be recommended by the highly reputed independent testing agency, Consumer Reports, the company claimed.

Available to customers from August, in 24 dimensions with more sizes to follow later, the new tyres are suitable for 4x4s, pick-ups, and sports utility vehicles (SUVs) that venture off-road, The company said.

It added that the new product will be offered in two types of construction including ‘P’ which features a road-biased design, making it ideal for fitment to passenger vehicles and ‘LT’ suited for working vehicles that are primarily used on more demanding off-road terrain.

According to a press release from Apollo Tyres, the new tyre has been designed and developed by the company’s in-house R&D operation in the Netherlands and has been tested in all-weather conditions, both on and off-road, in North America, Finland, South Africa and the Middle East.

Daniele Lorenzetti, Chief Technology Officer at Apollo Tyres Europe noted that Extensive AI-driven analysis and real-world testing across multiple geographies and climates has helped the company’s research and development team give the Pinza a unique balance of on- and off-road attributes.

It added that the treads on the new product features a four-groove herringbone pattern and full-depth interlocking sipes to offer grip on all surfaces including mud, sand, ice and snow while minimising on-road noise.

Furthermore, a three-pitched shoulder features ‘biting’ edges to further aid loose-surface grip, and twisted ‘stone ejectors’ have been incorporated into the tread to help clear debris, the release said.

Interestingly, the company claimed that the Pinza has secured ‘3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake’ certification.
