Volvo Trucks has announced a major breakthrough in long-distance electric transport with its next-generation heavy-duty electric truck, set to achieve up to 600 km on a single charge.

Scheduled for launch in the second half of 2025, the new Volvo FH Electric will enable transport companies to operate on interregional and long-distance routes, allowing for a full day of driving without the need for recharging. This development is part of Volvo's continued push towards electrification, extending the possibilities for heavy trucks across the globe.

“Our new electric flagship will be a great complement to our wide range of electric trucks and enable zero-exhaust emission transport for longer distances. It’s an ideal solution for transport companies with high annual mileage and a strong commitment to reducing CO2 emissions,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.

The key to the 600 km range is Volvo’s innovative e-axle driveline technology, which allows for significantly more battery capacity. Enhanced batteries, an improved battery management system, and overall powertrain efficiency also contribute to the extended range.

Volvo Trucks has established itself as a global leader in the medium- and heavy-duty electric truck market, offering eight battery-electric models. The company has delivered over 3,800 electric trucks across 46 countries, covering a wide range of applications from city and regional distribution to construction and waste management.

“The transport sector accounts for seven percent of global carbon emissions. Battery-electric trucks are crucial in reducing the climate footprint. Beyond environmental benefits, electric trucks offer drivers a better working environment with lower noise and vibrations,” Alm added.

Volvo Trucks is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, pursuing a three-path technology strategy that includes battery electric, fuel cell electric, and renewable fuel-powered combustion engines.
