Swedish carmaker Volvo India announced that it’s all-electric offering, the XC40 Recharge for the Indian market, will be assembled at its Hosakote plant near Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The company started local assembly in India in 2017. At present, the XC90, the XC60, the XC40 and the S90 are being locally assembled at the Bangalore plant.
Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said, “We are committed to grow the Indian market and our plans to assemble our latest offering the XC40 Recharge at our plant in Bengaluru is a reflection of this resolute.”
Expected to launch in July with deliveries starting October onwards, the e-SUV comes with a claimed WLTP range of 418 kms.
“The future of mobility is electric and as a company we have already stated that we will be an all-electric car company by 2030. Our focus on local assembly is a step in this direction,” Malhotra added.
The company aims to introduce a new all-electric model every year commencing 2022, while globally, it aims to feature an all-electric portfolio by 2030, a press release from the company said.
Last year, the carmaker introduced the XC60, S90, and XC90 petrol with a 48V mild-hybrid system to support their transition to an all-petrol portfolio and phased out all diesel models.
