Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has announced the commencement of its Autofest Mega Exchange Carnival 2024, providing customers with an exciting opportunity to upgrade to a new Volkswagen vehicle. In conjunction with this event, Volkswagen India has also announced the rebranding of its used car business from 'Das WeltAuto.' to 'Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned'. This strategic move aligns with the brand's global transition, leveraging the strength and trust associated with the Volkswagen name to enhance the visibility and value of its pre-owned car programme in the Indian market.
The first rebranded 'Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned' showroom was opened in Coimbatore today. This rebranding effort will continue to operate its successful multi-brand pre-owned car business, with a heightened focus on Volkswagen-branded models. The initiative aims to provide refurbishment, certification, and warranties for cars sold through this retail channel, ensuring a seamless and fully digitised customer experience.
Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, stated 'With Autofest, customers can avail exciting deals and offers that are available for a limited time period. As we continue to holistically focus on the Indian car market, we are also focusing on offering customers strong residual value in their new Volkswagen cars. We have also announced the strategic rebranding of our used car business to 'Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned' and launched the first rebranded store in Coimbatore.'
The rebranding comes amid growing demand for pre-owned cars, as consumers increasingly seek aspirational vehicles at more accessible price points. The used car business under the former 'Das WeltAuto.' brand name has witnessed a ten-fold growth in volumes over the last five years. Retail sales of pre-owned cars through this channel grew by 12 percent last year, a trend that has continued into the first half of 2024. Notably, Tier 2 towns have emerged as significant drivers of this growth.
