Full-service carrier Vistara has become the first Indian airline to deploy eWAS and SITA OptiClimb solutions from SITA, allowing the airline to significantly improve efficiency in flight planning and operations and reduce fuel burn. This will result in a reduction of the airline’s carbon emissions by 15,000 tonne annually.
Captain Hamish Maxwell, Senior Vice President – Flight Operations, Vistara, said advanced technology solutions, such as SITA OptiClimb and SITA eWAS, will help the airline reduce its carbon footprint. 'We are committed to continuing on this path and will keep evolving as a future-ready, world-class airline,” he said.
OptiClimb is the industry's only machine-learning solution providing customised climb profile optimisation for every flight. It leverages historical flight data to predict fuel burn during the climb out and its use will enable the airline to save 80 tonne of fuel per aircraft per year on average and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 250 tonne per aircraft yearly.
Sumesh Patel, President, Asia Pacific, SITA, said the company was now seeing more Indian airlines looking for smart solutions to optimise operations and enhance the passenger experience.
Vistara commenced its commercial operations in January 2015 and has a fleet of 63 aircraft, including 48 Airbus A320neo, 10 Airbus A321, and five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
