Valeo has announced that it has crossed the ten million production mark at its site in Wemding in Germany (Bavaria), for its front camera system in association with Mobileye, containing the latter’s technology. Since starting this activity, Valeo has produced nearly 13 million front cameras.
The collaboration between Valeo and Mobileye started in 2015 to integrate into the front camera system hardware and software the Mobileye system-on-chip (SoC), named ‘EyeQ’.
The Valeo front camera system using the Mobileye SoC supports key features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
Interestingly, the front camera system has become the key enabler in reaching the safety requirements defined by the authorities and is set to equip 100% of new cars.
Marc Vrecko, President- Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems Business Group, Valeo, noted that in 2023, Valeo aims to produce an additional nine million front cameras worldwide.
“By 2030, almost 90% of new vehicles will be equipped with this technology, and the ADAS content per vehicle will double,” he added.
Nimrod Nehushtan, Senior Vice President- Strategy and Business Development, Mobileye, said, “Together, we see great opportunities in the next few years to expand the capabilities of these technologies, providing automakers and end customers with affordable and reliable safety and convenience features.”
