The TVS XL 100 moped is a proper workhorse and has been the epitome of a cheap and reliable mode of transporting goods. In fact, a moped is one of the most affordable two-wheelers that money can buy and is quite popular. TVS is said to be working on an EV avatar of the XL 100 and has trademarked the names XL EV and E-XL.
In all likelihood, the electric XL 100 would be available in two variants. One for commercial purposes for goods transport and the other for commuting, akin to its ICE counterpart, the TVS XL 100 Comfort.
The idea to have an electric moped in the market could be great considering the low running costs of an electric vehicle vis a vis a petrol engine powered one. The cost per kilometre of transport could significantly impact the way a business operates.
That being said, the initial purchase cost of an electric XL 100 would be higher than a petrol one. Nevertheless, the electric XL100 could still be one of the cheapest electric two-wheelers on the market once it is launched. We expect that to happen sometime in 2024.
