The TVS Motor Company is known for its vast R&D prowess and we saw the fruit of one of its custom product divisions at the TVS MotoSoul event in Goa. Standing in one corner of the TVS Ronin custom bike stall was the Ronin SCR, short for Scrambler.
Using the Ronin as the base, TVS had kitted the SCR with long travel suspension, wire spoke wheels, knobby tyres, etc. It certainly looked the part of a Scrambler and after receiving an overwhelming response from the attendees at TVS MotoSoul, word is that TVS may put the bike into production.
TVS has, in fact, already registered the design of the Ronin Scrambler, further adding fuel to the speculation of the bike making it to production. Our estimate is that it might take anything between two to three years for the Ronin Scrambler to hit the market.
Once it does, expect the bike to be remarkably different from the street naked Ronin. The Scrambler will feature long travel suspension at both ends, on/off-road tyres, and possibly revised gearing to make it more responsive while riding off-road. The engine’s specifications, however, could be the same as on the street naked bike.
The design will also be more befitting of a Scrambler's purpose. Expect to see a raised front fender, a sleek tail section and new side panels. The fuel tank, however, could be the same as seen on the Ronin.
At present, the Triumph Scrambler 400X is the only bike in the sub Rs 3 lakh category. The TVS Ronin Scrambler, if and when launched, should be much cheaper than the Triumph.
