TÜV SÜD has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX). The partnership aims to strengthen automotive testing and certification in India, focusing on EMI/EMC compliance and other standards essential for vehicle and component approvals under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR).
These tests are vital for manufacturers to achieve Type Approval and Conformity of Production certifications, both of which are mandatory for vehicles and components seeking approval under Rule 126 of CMVR. The results from TÜV SÜD’s tests will be recognised by NATRAX for certification purposes, offering a seamless pathway for local and export homologation.
Ezhilan Neelan, Senior Vice President, Product Service Division at TÜV SÜD South Asia, stated “This collaboration marks a significant step in public-private partnerships, enabling us to offer world-class EMI/EMC testing services locally. Manufacturers across India can now benefit from economical and timely approvals for both domestic and international markets.”
Dr Manish Jaiswal, Director at NATRAX, added “This MoU facilitates not just local testing for Indian manufacturers but also fosters technical knowledge exchange in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Software-Defined Vehicles, and Automotive Cyber Security.”
The state-of-the-art EMI/EMC testing labs at TÜV SÜD’s Bengaluru facility are equipped to test products in a frequency range of up to 40 GHz and can accommodate larger products with a payload provision of 6,000 kg. The facility also features advanced IoT, wireless, and electrical safety testing capabilities, aligning with global standards to support the proliferation of connected and electric vehicles.
NATRAX brings its expertise in automotive testing through its 14 specialised test tracks and state-of-the-art laboratories. The partnership is expected to reduce costs and time for automotive manufacturers seeking approvals, making the process more accessible and efficient.
