Rajiv Bajaj hints at new 400cc bike launch in 2024

The Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 marked a new chapter in the history of the British manufacturer. These motorcycles were their first 400cc, single-cylinder bikes and by co-developing and having Bajaj Auto manufacture them, they sported an accessible price tag.

The bikes surprised everyone with the price-to-performance and quality ratio. In 2024, Triumph could launch the third motorcycle based on this platform as per a statement made by Bajaj Auto’s Rajiv Bajaj.

The new 400cc bike that Rajiv Bajaj is hinting at could be the new Thruxton 400. In recent times, test mules of the Triumph Thruxton 400 have been spotted and in many ways, the bike looks like a semi-faired version of the Speed 400. The semi-fairing looks similar in shape to the Speed Triple RR, which is sold in international markets. The test bike also had the same round LED headlight as the Speed and Scrambler 400.

In keeping with the cafe racer style of the Thruxton 400, the bike has clip-on handlebars instead of the single-piece handlebar that you see on the Speed 400. This makes the rider’s triangle sportier than the Speed’s. The fairing should also lend the Thruxton 400 more visual mass which was lacking in the Speed 400, perhaps one of its drawbacks.

The rest of the bike, whether it is the chassis, suspension or the engine will likely be the same as in the other Triumph 400s. To recap, the bikes have a 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.

In terms of pricing, expect the Thruxton 400 to sit between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400.
