Toyota is all set to make a comeback in the highly competitive sub-four-metre SUV segment early next month. The model, called the Urban Cruiser Taisor, will mark its debut on 3 April, 2024. The carmaker previously had the Brezza-based Urban Cruiser in this segment, but it was discontinued two years after its introduction back in 2020.
Based on the Maruti Fronx coupe-SUV, the Urban Cruiser Taisor will represent Toyota in the sub-four-metre SUV segment that includes the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, Renault Kiger, and the Mahindra XUV300.
The Urban Cruiser Taisor based on the Fronx is one of the multiple cross-badged cars from the Suzuki-Toyota alliance back in 2017. This partnership saw both carmakers enter segments where they weren’t previously present.
On the features front, the Toyota Taisor could arrive with a 360-degree camera, nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, UV-cut glass, HUD, LED headlamps and taillights, and connected car technology.
In India, some of the badge-engineered products include the Baleno-based Glanza, Ertiga-based Rumion, and the Toyota Hycross-based Invicto. The Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder were co-developed by both brands. In the global market, a few other products such as the Celerio and Ciaz have been rebadged to Toyota Vitz and Belta models, respectively.
