Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced a series of enhancements to its Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV aimed at reinforcing its position in India’s hybrid segment. The Hyryder has crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone and now gains several new features to improve safety, convenience and comfort. Among the most notable changes is the addition of six airbags as standard across all variants, a significant move for safety in a segment where airbags beyond the front two are still limited to higher trims in many models.
Toyota has discontinued the 5-speed manual gearbox in the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant and replaced it with a 6-speed automatic transmission. While this makes the driving experience more accessible to a wider audience, the Hyryder still retains its primary focus on fuel efficiency and hybrid technology rather than performance-led dynamics.
The upgrades on the comfort side include ventilated seats for the driver and co-driver, an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, rear door sunshades and ambient lighting in the top variants. Type-C USB ports and an Air Quality Index display reflect a response to evolving customer expectations around in-cabin tech. Toyota has also made the LED spot and reading lamps standard and introduced clearer speedometer displays. Despite these useful additions, the bulk of these features remain limited to the higher variants, keeping the entry-level trims fairly basic.
The company has attempted to freshen up the SUV with new dual-tone colour options on select variants, but the exterior styling remains consistent with earlier iterations. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder retains its sleek LED projector headlamps, twin DRLs, sporty skid plate and crystal acrylic grille. It continues to ride on 17-inch alloy wheels and offers up to 11 colour choices including both monotone and dual-tone finishes.
Starting at INR 11.34 lakh (ex-showroom), the Urban Cruiser Hyryder now also offers 66 custom accessories and Toyota’s standard 3-year or 100,000 km warranty, which can be extended to 5 years or 220,000 km. The hybrid battery continues to be covered for 8 years or 160,000 km. Bookings for the updated Hyryder are now open both online and at dealerships across India.
