In a significant stride towards empowering rural youth with advanced technical skills, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) inaugurated the 64th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) Institute at the Government Industrial Training Institute, Karaundi, Varanasi. This initiative, a collaboration between TKM and the Government Industrial Training Institute, is set to enhance the employability of students, particularly from rural backgrounds.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, beyond its role as a car manufacturer, is committed to creating skilled and motivated individuals. The T-TEP initiative, part of Toyota's broader skilling efforts, focuses on students from rural and economically challenged backgrounds, aiming to create world-class skilled technicians. TKM's dedication to skill development received recognition when Akhilesh Narasimhamurthy, a skill champion from Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), won the Mechatronics Bronze Medal at the World Skill Contest 2022, earning the opportunity to interact with Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi.

T-TEP, a year-long programme inclusive of On-the-Job Training (OJT), targets final-year ITI/Diploma students. Noteworthy features include specialized training for institute trainers by Toyota, practical OJT at Toyota dealerships, and a curriculum designed to enhance knowledge of advanced automotive technology. TKM has partnered with 64 ITI/Diploma institutes across 26 states, training over 12,000 students. More than 70% of these students are employed in various automobile companies and dealerships across the country.

Arun Kumar Yadav, Principal, Government Industrial Training Institute, Karaundi, Varanasi, emphasized the need for students to have access to advanced technologies in response to the growing advancements in the auto industry. The collaboration with TKM allows students to understand Toyota's values, best practices, and advanced technologies, contributing to both the students' growth and the Skill India mission.

Vikram Gulati, Country Head & Executive Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, highlighted T-TEP's success since its inception in 2006. The program offers industry-oriented courses, developing talented youths equipped with the latest automotive technologies, aligning with the needs of the growing Indian Auto industry. To further support students, TKM introduced the Scholarship Program for Technical Education And Recognition (STAR) under T-TEP. This initiative aims to empower deserving students from financially challenging backgrounds, providing scholarships up to INR 51,000 per year, covering hostel fees, educational expenses, and family support.

Rahul Goenka, Dealer Principal, Rajendra Toyota, expressed the commitment of Rajendra Toyota to support students by providing on-job training and facilitating skill development. The institute's adoption of T-TEP syllabus enhances students' skills, making them employable in the auto industry.

TKM, in collaboration with its dealer partner, has invested over INR 1.5 million in infrastructure, e-learning content, engines, transmissions, practice kits, and faculty training. The STAR program, spanning across 11 states, underscores TKM's commitment to enhancing and expanding T-TEP to rural areas, addressing the automotive industry's skill development needs and providing opportunities for talented students to excel in the automotive sector.
