After the launch of the updated Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Japanese carmaker Toyota Kirloskar Motor, on Tuesday launched the Glanza premium hatchback at an introductory price of INR 6.39 lakh ex-showroom India for the base E trim level.
Based on the 2022 Baleno, the car gets a revised front end with a new bumper design and a single slat chrome grille. The rear end remains identical to the MSIL counterpart as is the side profile with a similar 16-inch rim design.
The power plant of the hatch also remains similar to that of the Baleno with a 1.2 litre K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine churning out 113Nm at 4,400rpm torque and peak power of 66kW at 6,000rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an AGS.
On the tech front, it carries several features, including Heads-Up-Display, a 360-degree view camera, a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system cruise control, automatic climate control, a dual-tone dashboard, rear AC vents, a height-adjustable driver seat, and an Arkamys-sourced music system.
It also gets Toyota i-connect with 45 connected features like remote locking and unlocking, fuel updates, find my car, among others.
Safety features of the car include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, rear parking sensors, a speed alert system, and a seat-belt reminder system.
Build at the Maruti’s Gujrat facility, the Glanza underpins the fifth-gen HEARTECT platform, using high tensile and ultra high tensile steel and retuned suspension.
Tadashi Asazuma, Executive Vice President - Sales and Customer Service, TKM, said that the first generation Glanza which was launched in 2019, brought in several first-time buyers for the company.
Targeted at young customers, the new hatch is pitted against the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
