The flagship brand of Titagarh Group, Titagarh Wagons, has rolled out its first aluminium metro train manufactured at its newly set up plant in West Bengal.
Manoj Joshi, Chairman – Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) and Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director, MMRC, Jaideep, Director, MMRC and Officer on Special Duty - Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Sunil Mathur, Director (Rolling Stocks, System & Operations), MMRC and other officials of MMRC.
The company claimed that the plant in Uttarpara, West Bengal, is fully compliant with industry 4.0 standards. In addition, in line with the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat policies, it has localised several critical components such as bogie frames, interiors, and brake systems for these trains.
Umesh Chowdhary, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Titagarh, said, “We began our journey to manufacture passenger trains (EMU) in India in 2007 with a dream to design and manufacture modern passenger trains for the Indian Metro System.”
The group is participating in various other tenders for Metro Coaches in India in addition to the focus on the propulsion vertical, he added.
In 2019 the group was awarded the order to design, manufacture, and supply 102 metro coaches for the Pune Metro project.
Signed jointly with its subsidiary- Titagarh Firema S.p.A., Italy, under the contract, the company will supply three trains from its plant in Italy and the remaining 31 trains from its Indian facilities.
The first train manufactured at Titagarh’s Italian facilities was flagged off and launched for regular operation on March 7, 2022, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from the Garware Station in Pune.
The total contract for 34 trains is valued at INR 1,100 crore and is scheduled for execution by the end of FY23, a press release from the company stated.
