It is finally happening! A few months after the Swift was launched, a new Dzire will arrive and Maruti has officially confirmed that 4 November will be the big day. This is the fourth generation of Maruti’s popular compact sedan and will pick up a new design language but share its cabin and powertrains with the Swift.
What's new?
Leaked images reveal a new face, a new design for the alloy wheels and a completely new design for the tail lamps. Inside, the elements and layout, like before, are shared with the Swift but will be in a two-tone beige over black layout compared to the all-black scheme of the Swift. It will use the same 1.2-litre three-pot mild-hybrid petrol found in the Swift and will also be available with CNG power.
Changed world
Much has changed in the sub-4 compact sedan world since the third-gen Dzire came along in 2017. The demand for SUV-styled vehicles has multiplied significantly with Hyundai and Tata both bringing in the Exter and Punch to stand alongside the Aura and Tigor respectively. Maruti is yet to make that push but has the advantage in the fact that it’s the king of the compact segment with multiple models to challenge the competition. This means that while the new Dzire has a lot of ground to cover, it is not alone in Maruti’s quest for numbers.
The competition
This new Dzire will take on the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor but also an updated Honda Amaze that is expected to debut at the end of the year. We also expect that the current car will continue as the Tour (S) CNG for the fleet market.
