This is the sixth-generation E-Class globally

The sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class will finally make its way to India on 9 October. The car was showcased last month and we are only one of the two markets in the world to get the car in a LWB guise, the other being China.

The new E-Class sports an evolutionary design on the outside but is all new inside with multiple screens and of course the complete rear seat experience thanks to the extended wheelbase. You can get it with both petrol and diesel power, the latter beating out the BMW 5 Series by a decent margin in terms of arrival to market.

We know more than enough about the two products and what each of them will bring to the table but there is a bigger story with two major aspects. The first is that in a sea of SUVs, the demand for these two cars indicates that sedans still have big space with buyers in this part of the market. What’s more, diesel is still a powerful choice when we look at this fight. The other big reveal is that LWB is the key to extra luxury. BMW has shifted to LWB/EWB format for the 5 Series with Mercedes being the forerunner when it comes to this and the E-Class. The BMW 5 Series in this LWB guise is priced at Rs. 86.7 lakh (on-road) and we expect that the E-Class petrol will have a similar price, while the diesel will come in just above the Rs. 90 lakh mark.
