TATA.ev has announced a bold initiative to expand the nation’s EV charging infrastructure to 400,000 points by 2027, more than doubling the current count. With plans to install over 30,000 public fast chargers through partnerships and introducing new features like TATA.ev Verified Chargers and Mega Chargers, this initiative aims to accelerate EV adoption and ensure reliable and accessible charging solutions.

The initiative builds on TATA.ev’s Open Collaboration framework, which was first introduced in 2023 to partner with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). The framework has already seen success, with the installation of over 18,000 public chargers in just 15 months. TATA.ev’s cumulative efforts have resulted in 1.5 lakh private chargers, 2,500 community chargers, and 750 dealership chargers across more than 200 cities.

Under Open Collaboration 2.0, TATA.ev plans to install 500 Mega Chargers in key cities and along highways, offering superfast charging with a capacity of 120 kW per station. The chargers, designed with four charging bays, will provide fast, reliable, and high-quality services. While open to all EV users, TATA.ev customers will enjoy benefits like priority access and tariff discounts. Partnerships with Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq, and Zeon have been signed to operationalise these chargers in the first phase.

A new feature, TATA.ev Verified Chargers, has been launched to help users locate reliable charging points through the iRA.ev app. The app also integrates payment solutions, allowing seamless transactions at multiple charging stations via a unified digital wallet. In addition, TATA.ev has introduced a 24x7 Charging Helpline to address customer queries and reduce charging-related anxieties.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, mentioned “To drive exponential EV growth in India, we are scaling up infrastructure to over 400,000 charging points. This will enhance the speed, reliability, and user experience of charging, while supporting the ecosystem of CPOs. Our initiatives, like Mega Chargers and Verified Chargers, demonstrate our commitment to addressing barriers in EV adoption.”

TATA.ev aims to increase EV accessibility not only in urban areas but also along intercity routes. The inclusion of Mega Chargers in cities serves dual purposes: raising awareness among hesitant buyers and catering to users who rely entirely on public charging due to a lack of home charging options.
