Tata’s sales in the first quarter was led, unsurprisingly, by the Punch and the Nexon. The automaker managed to move 91,036 units of both cars as compared to the 76,300 units in the corresponding period of the previous FY. However, exports are down from 272 units to 3 units when looking at FY25 versus FY24.

Of the two, the Nexon is the most diverse with petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric as powertrain options. But the Punch has been better in terms of numbers moving 38,107 units in April and May as compared to the 22,625 units of the Nexon in the same period.

Tata’s non-SUV range has seen a shrink in numbers going from 51,226 units in April-June, 2023 to 37,578 units in April-June, 2024. The Tigor and the Tiago both have petrol, CNG, and electric options, while the Altroz gets petrol, diesel, and CNG with an electric powertrain expected to arrive in 2026. Tata joins the likes of Maruti Suzuki that’s seen growth for its SUV range but at the cost of its other body-style vehicles.

Finally, Tata’s big boys, the Safari and the Harrier, saw a drop in numbers going from 12,594 units in April-June, 2023 to 9,490 units in the same period, 2024. This drop has come despite both cars receiving a major facelift in October 2023.
