India’s leading automobile brand Tata Motors today unveiled its first sub-compact SUV, the Tata Punch, in four distinct personas - Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. The model is expected to be launched in India on October 20, 2021, with deliveries commencing the same day.

Offered in both Manual (MT) and Automatic (AMT) transmission options, the vehicle can be booked through its website and its network of over 1,000 showrooms across the country for INR 21,000.

The sub-compact SUV comes in seven vibrant colours and further help personalise it with the Rhythm and Dazzle customisation packs, in tune with the customers’ lifestyle.

Tata Motors Design Studios in India, the UK, and Italy collaborated to develop this unique vehicle to introduce an entirely new category - the sub-compact SUV- to address a growing customer need for a small size but large space SUV.

Built on its Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) Architecture, the Punch incorporates several industry-first innovations to enhance functionality and driving pleasure. Its tall stance, high ground clearance andcommanding driving position provide an exhilarating driving experience even while navigating all the unexpected challenges that Indian roads offer. In addition, its advanced infotainment and connectivity match the high expectations of the discerning Indian car-buyers, the company said.

Punch is powered by a new 1.2L Revotron engine with Dynapro technology that makes the car efficient and provides good low-end torque. The AMT gearbox comes with Altitude Adjusted Tuning maps which helps the car provide optimal power output on high altitude terrains. The car also comes with ABS, EBD, Anchor pre-tensioner, Dual driving mode and ISOFix points as standard. The Brake Sway Control helps the car to stay in a line before the ABS kicks in. Also, the interior is filled with 25 utility spaces. Like in Altroz, the car gets 90-degree opening doors.

Martin Uhlarik, Global Head of Design, Tata Motors, said the company’s three design studios in India, UK, and Italy had developed the vehicle. Over 140 design personnel participated in this project, producing hundreds of sketches, many design proposals, and models that have ultimately led to this SUV.

“We have designed a unique whitespace sub-compact SUV which carries forward the same authenticity of Tata SUVs. Its muscular surfacing and an athletic look make a perfect amalgamation for a tough SUV, living up to its bigger siblings. Intelligently designed in a compact footprint, it will be a high impact SUV and will redefine this crowded market,” he added.

Showcasing the first SUV from ALFA Architecture, Anand Kulkarni, Vice President, Product Line Head, ALFA Architecture and Passenger Electric Vehicles, Tata Motors, said: “All our researches clearly showed that customers needed a small SUV. The most important criteria to meet this performance requirement was to start with a fundamentally strong & robust platform. The proven, state-of-the-art ALFA Architecture can deliver different body styles with the outstanding build quality, delivering unmatched safety credentials. The success of Altroz is a testament to these capabilities. The Punch is our first SUV offering from the ALFA Architecture, and despite being designed in a compact footprint, it meets all the key capabilities of a true SUV- tall stance, high ground clearance and commanding driving position that customers would expect from an SUV to navigate all the unexpected challenges that Indian roads have to offer.”
