Tata Motors is set to take the Nexon to the next level with the introduction of a CNG version in the coming months. This iteration of the Nexon will take the fight to the likes of the Maruti Brezza CNG, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
The Tata Nexon is currently offered with petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains, and by adding the CNG version, it will make the sub-four-metre SUV a car with the widest choice of options under the hood. This is a given since the Nexon has been the most successful model for the Indian carmaker since its inception.
Another highlight for the Nexon is that it would be the first model to be available with a turbocharged petrol engine mated to a CNG kit. All other CNG models currently on sale are powered by a naturally aspirated petrol motor.
In the Nexon, the CNG version will be propelled by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder motor that develops 118bhp and 170Nm. The power output of the CNG version has not been revealed at the moment. What we know is that a five-speed manual transmission will be standard while an AMT unit could follow later.
