In a bid to transform into a pure EV brand, the homegrown carmaker Tata Motors showcased its third EV concept, the AVINYA, a word derived from Sanskrit, meaning innovation.

Based on the generation-three bespoke skateboard platform from the company, the car is said to debut in 2025 in the production guise.

The concept comes with a flexible design while boasting of next-generation connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems and enhanced performance and efficiency.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), noted that the battery used will support an ultra-fast charge capability, in line with the infrastructure evolution, pumping a minimum 500 kms range in under 30 minutes.

With a strong focus on human-centric design, the wheels have been moved outwards to make up more space than a similarly sized ICE vehicle. Additionally, the interior now focuses on voice-enabled controls complemented by secondary screens. The company predicts that lesser screens will dominate the future.

In terms of exterior design, the concept follows a mix between an SUV and an MPV with an overall length of 4.3 meters, as confirmed by Martin Uhlarik, Head of Design for Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC).

Besides, the main highlight of the exterior design are the signature DRLs that run across the width of the car both at the front and at the back along with a butterfly door mechanism with no B-pillar.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons and Tata Motors, said, “Green Mobility is at the nucleus of TPEM, and the AVINYA concept is the perfect reflection of what the company stands for – a creation that will not only accelerate the adoption of EVs but also lead this movement.”

The chairman further noted that the company plans to go global with the platform both with the Tata badge and the JLR badge.

Furthermore, with the current disruptions in the industry, he added that the company also aims to venture into semiconductor manufacturing and battery manufacturing. It may be noted that although the company was selected for the PLI scheme by the Indian Government, it did not apply for the battery manufacturing under the scheme.

Chandra added, “The AVINYA Concept is the fruition of our first idea built on our Pure EV GEN 3 architecture, enabling us to produce a range of globally competitive EVs. Our vision for pure EVs is focused on delivering wellness and rejuvenation while travelling, backed by cutting-edge technologies, aimed at improving the overall quality of life.”

Earlier in the month, the company also showcased its second-gen EV platform with the concept CURVV which is expected to launch by 2024.

The Generation-2 EV architecture from the company, which is essentially a heavily reworked version of the ALFA platform, the SUV will feature a coupe design language and will be launched as an EV first, followed by an ICE version.
