Home grown EV maker, Tata Motors Electric Mobility, on Wednesday unveiled its latest EV offering, the concept CURVV. The production vehicle is expected to launch by 2024.

Based on the Generation-2 EV architecture from the company which is essentially a heavily reworked version of the ALFA platform, the SUV will feature a coupe design language and will be launched as an EV first followed by an ICE version.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said, “With the concept CURVV, we now enter the Generation-2 EV architecture which will further enhance the adoption of EVs in India by overcoming the current barriers. With this new architecture, we will strengthen the key pillars of Range, Performance and Technology, while retaining Safety and Reliability as hygiene offerings.”

With the new platform, the company claimed to have made several improvements to enhance the efficiency of the product over the company’s previous EVs, including using higher capacity batteries which can give the vehicle a claimed range of 400-500 kms.

Furthermore, the new platform has also allowed the company to introduce faster AC and DC charging times along with cloud connectivity for OTAs, edge computing and V2L and V2V charging.

Additionally, all the products based on the new platform will also benifit from a customisable regen-braking system which can be completely turned off if needed as well.

On the design side, Martin Uhlarik, Head of Design, Tata Motors, said that the concept CURVV follows the brand’s new Digital Design language and features signature EV styling including the light bar at the front.

He further said that the SUV has been designed to be as aerodynamic as possible. Other notable take away from the concept model showcased are a panoramic sunroof, two screens including one as instrument cluster and the other as infotainment system, touchscreen air condition controls and the next gen two spoke steering design with illuminated Tata logo.

With the CURVV, the EV maker plans to fill in the gap in its product portfolio by slotting the product in the mid-size SUV segment.

However, Chandra noted that the concept is on a clean sheet design and has the potential to attract customers from both the mid-size SUV segment as well as high SUV segments.

Furthermore, he stated that the Generation-2 platform can accommodate various other body styles too. It must be noted that the company earlier announced its plans to introduce ten new EVs by 2025 which will be based on ICE converted platforms as well as Generation-2 & 3 platforms.

The company currently leads the EV race in the four-wheeler segment with its Nexon EV and the Tigor EV enjoying a combined claimed market share of 87%.

“We not only emerged as the number one SUV player with our array of products in our portfolio, we also continued to super charge our growth in the EV space with our highest ever annual EV sales going up by 353% vs FY21,” Chandra concluded.
