In a move toward augmenting sustainable workforce transportation, Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, today unveiled a fleet of indigenously built electric buses at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand.

The zero-emission Tata Ultra 9m electric buses, powered by advanced battery systems and equipped with state-of-the-art features, are set to revolutionise workforce commutes for over 5,000 employees while significantly reducing environmental impact.

Facilitated by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited (TSCMSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, the electric buses will contribute to cutting carbon emissions by approximately 1,100 tonnes annually. Enhancing the green credentials of this initiative, the fleet will be charged using electricity generated from a 16MW solar power plant, ensuring a completely eco-friendly operation.

Highlighting the initiative’s significance, Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head – Operations, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, stated, “The introduction of electric buses for workforce commuting marks a significant step towards achieving our aspiration of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. This initiative exemplifies Tata Motors’ commitment to integrating sustainability across our operations.”

The Tata Ultra EV 9m buses are equipped with cutting-edge technology, including regenerative braking systems and Intelligent Transport Systems, ensuring efficiency, safety, and reliability. This deployment builds on Tata Motors’ leadership in India’s electric mass mobility segment, where the company has already introduced over 3,100 electric buses across 10 cities, collectively covering more than 24 crore kilometres with an uptime exceeding 95%.
