SWITCH Mobility Ltd has launched two new electric city buses, the EiV12 for India and the E1 for Europe. Unveiled by Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways of India, the buses feature state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) technology designed for optimal efficiency, passenger comfort, and sustainability. The advanced configuration supports longer range and operational efficiency, making the bus an ideal choice for urban commutes.

The EiV12 accommodates up to 39 seated passengers, maximising revenue potential for operators while maintaining comfort and safety standards. Key technical features of the EiV12 include a low-floor entry with a kneeling mechanism for easy accessibility and an automated wheelchair ramp, ensuring inclusivity for differently-abled passengers. Safety is prioritised through the installation of five CCTV cameras with 360-degree coverage and dedicated seats for women. The bus is equipped with SWITCH iON, a proprietary telematics system that enables real-time vehicle health monitoring, Integrated Transport Management Systems (ITMS), and efficient fleet management.

The EiV12 also boasts a dual-gun rear charging interface that allows for rapid recharging while optimising depot space. The bus’s IP67-rated batteries ensure reliability even on flooded roads, a critical feature for India’s urban environments. The panoramic glass area—the largest in its segment—enhances visibility, natural lighting, and interior aesthetics.

For the European market, the SWITCH E1 brings cutting-edge engineering through its lightweight monocoque construction and flat gangway layout. Designed to enhance efficiency and passenger movement, the E1 supports up to 93 passengers, including standees, with its triple-door configuration facilitating quick boarding and alighting. The bus integrates in-wheel motors for improved performance and space utilisation, making it an efficient choice for densely populated urban areas.

Ashok P Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group of Companies (India) said, Switch Mobility is inspired to launch newer vehicles with cutting-edge technology and zero carbon emissions, only because of the wonderful road infrastructure that is coming up in India.

Mahesh Babu, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, highlighted the overwhelming response to the EiV12, which has already garnered 1,800 orders, as a testament to the market’s confidence in the company’s EV solutions.
