Swaraj Tractors has partnered with Mahindra Susten to establish Punjab’s largest solar group captive project in Bathinda. The 26 megawatt (MW) solar installation will supply electricity to four of Swaraj Tractors’ manufacturing units located in Mohali and Dera Bassi. This marks a significant step toward integrating sustainability into one of India’s most recognised tractor brands, with a goal of meeting up to 50 percent of its energy needs through renewable sources.
The solar project is expected to generate approximately 60 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually and will help reduce around 54,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The installation reflects the Mahindra Group’s continued emphasis on climate action and sustainable operations, while also setting a precedent in the agricultural equipment manufacturing sector.
This initiative also signals Mahindra Susten’s operational entry into Punjab, expanding its footprint as a leading renewable Independent Power Producer. Deepak Thakur, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Susten Private Limited, noted that the company’s approach is to develop tailor-made power plants for commercial and industrial clients.
