Japanese vehicle maker Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced that it has developed a technology to reuse small lithium-ion batteries collected from ELVs for solar-powered streetlights in Japan as a part of its non-profitable activity.

Under this, small lithium-ion batteries are being collected from ELVs and disposed of with the remaining battery life. Using the technology, ten such batteries collected from ten ELVs will be used to power one solar-powered streetlight, the company said.

The company claims that the technology can open up the way for efficient utilisation of small lithium-ion batteries, which are to increase in the future.

In view of this, the company plans to make the technology open to the public as a product of Suzuki’s non-profitable activity to penetrate the technology.
