Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, celebrates surpassing the remarkable milestone of three million cumulative production in less than seven years.
SMG, operational since February 2017, achieved this feat within approximately six years and 11 months, with the last one million units produced in just 17 months. Boasting an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units, the Gujarat facility caters to both domestic and export markets.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, expressed his delight, saying, “Reaching three million cumulative production milestone in Gujarat has been possible due to the supportive ecosystem provided for manufacturing activities in the state.”
He further announced that the Gujarat plant, with its increased production flexibility after the acquisition of Suzuki Motor Gujarat, will undertake the production of our battery electric vehicles, expected to commence in FY 2024-25.
Aligned with the Government’s ‘‘Make-in-India’ vision, 50 per cent of the total vehicles exported by Maruti Suzuki in FY 2022-23 were manufactured at SMG.”
Maruti Suzuki's recent acquisition of Suzuki Motor Gujarat from Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Japan, further strengthens its production capabilities and aligns with the company's commitment to manufacturing excellence.
