Chennai-headquartered Sundram Fasteners Limited’s Powertrain Components division has received the Supplier of the Year award from the global vehicle maker General Motors at the 30th Annual Supplier of the Year awards ceremony held in Phoenix, Arizona. It is the only Indian company to get the Supplier of the Year award this year.
General Motors earlier recognised the powertrain components division as a Supplier of the Year in 2019.
It may be recalled that Sundram Fasteners is the only Indian company honoured by GM with the Supplier of the Year Award for five consecutive years (1996 to 2000) for supplying radiator caps.
The Supplier of the Year award recognises distinguished global suppliers that exceed the vehicle maker’s requirements, providing its customers with innovative technologies and the highest quality in the automotive industry.
This year the vehicle manufacturer honoured 134 suppliers representing 16 countries, including Sundram Fasteners from India. Additionally, 31 suppliers from 12 countries earned GM’s Overdrive Award.
The Supplier of the Year and Overdrive Award winners were selected by a global cross-functional team based on performance criteria in Product Purchasing, Global Purchasing and Manufacturing Services, Customer Care and Aftersales and Logistics.
According to Shilpan Amin, Vice President, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, GM, “These top suppliers showed resilience and reinforced their commitment to pursuing sustainability and innovation. Through our strong relationships and collaboration, GM and our suppliers are poised to build a brighter future for generations to come.”
Began its operations in 1966, Sundram Fasteners has evolved as a company to reckon with the several OEMs, leading Tier-1s and aftermarket companies across the globe, for its critical, high precision components. Its products include fasteners, powertrain components, sintered metal products, iron powder, cold extruded parts, radiator caps, water pumps, oil pumps and wind energy components. The company’s products are exported to several countries, including Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, the UK and the US.
Notable among many awards and recognitions is the prestigious Deming Prize that Sundram Fasteners received for all its 17 plants in India in 2018. Besides, its factory in China won the Best Labour Relations Award from the Haiyan Government.
