SMEV Announces Leadership Changes For 2023

Representing Indian manufacturers of electric vehicles and components, the new management aims to tackle all roadblocks faced by the acceleration of EV ecosystem development in the country

Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) has appointed a new management group for the current year. RK Misra, Co-Founder, Yulu Bikes and Director, Magna Yuma has taken charge as the new President, while Akshay Kashyap, Managing Director, Greenfuel Energy Solutions will serve as the Vice President.

Umesh Balani, Managing Director, Rotomag/ Rotomotive Group is the new Secretary of the SMEV, and Anadi N Sinha, Director, Group Corporate Affairs, UNO Minda has talen over as the new Treasurer, announced SMEV in a recent communication. 

The Indian electric mobility sector is at a crucial juncture, Misra said, and “holds immense potential to transform the way we commute and contribute to a greener future”. He is confident that the new leadership will be able to help partners accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and make a lasting impact on the cleaner transportation ecosystem.

An IIT Kanpur graduate with a masters’ degree from Tokyo University, Misra is also a Fellow of Harvard Kennedy School of Govt and Aspen Institute. Before Yulu, Misra had founded and exited Tenet Technologies (sold to Hughes) and Traveljini.com (sold to ICICI Ventures), post which he decided to leave the corporate world to engage with the issues of public policy and governance. 

Kashyap is an alumnus of the Florida Institute of Technology, and has deep focus on producing low-emissions power solutions to achieve India's net zero emissions goal by 2070. Balani, meanwhile is the Founder and Managing Director of Rotomag, which is involved in the design and manufacture of electric drives, motors, and gear systems for industrial, wind, solar, and EV applications. A veteran HR-cum-business strategist, Sinha has worked in the past with brands like Tata, Bharti Airtel, Bridgestone, Lupin and Kelvinator.
