Indian trainees aspiring to fly with commercial airlines can now remotely start their journey towards becoming an airline pilot with the launch of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Distance Learning programme by Skyborne Airline Academy Vero Beach.

SKYWORX, Skyborne’s educational division, offers an innovative distance learning programme that will allow trainee pilots to prepare for their DGCA Commercial Pilot License (CPL) theory exams. In addition, trainees will have access to the academy’s experienced instructors using Padpilot technology.

Ian Cooper, Chief Operating Officer, Skyborne, said, “The Indian aviation market is significant, and we believe the country will continue to see a growing demand for well-trained pilots throughout COVID-19 recovery. Our SKYWORX DGCA Distance Learning programme enables trainees to stay one step ahead of their peers as airlines in India restart recruitment.”

The programme is recognised by leading Indian airlines, including IndiGo and consists of a 15-week online tutoring and self-study course, followed by a three-week exam preparation phase at Capt Sahil Khurana Aviation Academy (CSKAA) in New Delhi. On completing their final course exams, trainees can choose from a range of flight training options at Skyborne’s Vero Beach base in the US.

Ashim Mitra, Flight Operations Chief, IndiGo, said, “We have always been forward-thinking and navigated towards training tools that are innovative and most effective in the arena of pilot training. The launch of SKYWORX is one such programme by Skyborne, which we believe will provide a high quality, standardised training platform required for our IndiGo cadets completing ground school.”

Skyborne Airline Academy has training facilities at its home base in Gloucestershire Airport, UK and Vero Beach, USA, respectively. Skyborne was named as a training provider for Indigo in January 2019.
