For Klaus Zellmer, Chairman of the Management Board & CEO of Škoda Auto a.s., while Europe remains a core market, the automaker’s vision stretches far beyond, guided by a strategy to build a strong global foundation anchored on two key pillars. At the heart of this ambition is India—a rapidly growing market that the company envisions as its second pillar. And this intent is clearly reflected in today’s unveiling of the all new Kylaq, which made world debut in India, highlighting the country’s pivotal role in Škoda’s global expansion.
With its rapidly growing automotive landscape and vast potential, India stands as the most promising growth market outside of Europe, he said. Moreover, Skoda sees India not only as a market but also as a future export hub, poised to play a pivotal role in the company’s global expansion strategy. Syncing with his vision, the Kylaq is introduced with an aim to revolutionise the compact SUV segment – the carmaker’s first sub-4m SUV designed specifically for the Indian market.
With its roots in India and aspirations on a global scale, the Kylaq is set to capture a new wave of customers, showcasing Škoda’s commitment to expanding its presence across diverse markets.
Zellmer said, India is key to the company’s internationalisation plans, the world’s third-largest car market, and SUVs make up 50% of new vehicle sales. “We want the Kylaq to welcome new customers who are looking in this popular and fast-growing segment. The Kylaq is our gateway model in India, combining European technology with a design tailored to local preferences. We’re proud to introduce the Kylaq with modern aesthetics and over 25 advanced safety features, all at an accessible starting price of INR 7,89,000,” he added.
A Name Chosen By India
Named through a nationwide campaign, the Kylaq draws inspiration from the Sanskrit word for crystal and Mount Kailash, embodying durability and elegance. Joining Skoda’s SUV lineup with models like the Kushaq and Kodiaq, the Kylaq aims to create a strong presence in a highly competitive segment.
Feature-Packed For Improved Driving Experience
The Kylaq boasts segment-first features including six-way adjustable ventilated seats, a spacious 446-litre boot (expandable to 1,256 litres), and a 25.6cm infotainment screen. Other offerings include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a sunroof on select variants, cruise control, paddle shifters, and a 20.32cm Virtual Cockpit for the driver.
Piyush Arora, MD and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, said, “The Kylaq has generated immense anticipation. With high localisation, outstanding dynamics, and top-notch safety, it’s poised to make a significant mark in India.”
Design Language
Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language debuts with the Kylaq in India. Defined by clean lines and a striking black grille with 3D ribs, it also features the all-new Skoda wordmark on the rear. A blend of form and function, the Kylaq’s design highlights robust proportions, a compact silhouette, and a bold aluminium-finish lower spoiler.
Performance, Safety
Powered by a 1.0 TSI engine delivering 85kW of power, the vehicle accelerates from 0-100 kph in just 10.5 seconds. Built on the proven MQB-A0-IN platform, the car has been tested extensively across challenging Indian terrains to withstand diverse climates and road conditions.
Sustainably Manufactured
Produced at Škoda’s Chakan plant, the Kylaq is built with a sustainable approach. The facility utilises 30% solar energy, aiming to reach 75% by 2026. With Zero Waste to Landfill and Zero Liquid Discharge Certifications, the Kylaq integrates sustainable materials, such as bamboo-fibre finishes in its dashboard, reflecting Škoda’s eco-friendly manufacturing philosophy.
Driving Growth in India
The Kylaq launch marks a strategic milestone for Škoda in India. Martin Jahn, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, noted, “With its value proposition, the Kylaq is positioned to attract a broad customer base, making European technology accessible and solidifying our presence in this vibrant market.”
