Skoda Auto Volkswagen India sold 101,270 units sold in 2022 with exports accounting for 33,397 units.
Sales were up 86% year-on-year and the VW group introduced over 20 model updates through the year across Skoda, VW , Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini.
Skoda registered its highest-ever sales volume with a growth of 125% and VW by 58%, its highest in the last five years. Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini maintained their upward trajectory with strong double-digit growth.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Skoda VW, said this performance was a testimony to the success story 'we have been scripting'. While challenges around the ongoing chip shortage and increasing input costs continued, 'we successfully recalibrated, taking action with agility and speed' to minimise the impact.
'Our Made-in-India models are rapidly gaining popularity and universal recognition for their world-class quality, robustness and stylish designs. India is one of the key markets for the Group and will continue to contribute strongly to our global operations,' he added.
Christian Cahn von Seelen, Executive Director – Group Sales & Marketing,saidPorsche and Lamborghini were scaling new heights with an 'exciting portfolio of unique vehicles, thrilling experiences and exhilarated customers' across. The Audi e-tron and Porsche Taycan also achieved 'remarkable resonance' and with over 40 active and passive safety features as standard and a host of cutting-edge technologies, 'our cars offer the most advanced equipment to enhance the safety and driving experience of our customers”.
India is clearly emerging as a key manufacturing hub for the group and has spawned a strong base of developers, engineers and suppliers for the world. Nearly 20% of the overall supplier base is new with close to 25% of suppliers exporting to the group globally. Shipments from India head out to 44 markets and assembly of the Kushaq and Slavia will kick off in Vietnam next year.
