Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has announced that the group’s India 2.0 project sedans, the Slavia and the Virtus, achieved a 5-star rating for both Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection under the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign.
With the body shell rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings, the GNCAP results stated that during the frontal impact, the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good, while both the front passenger’s chest showed adequate protection and knees showed good protection.
Side impact revealed that head, chest and abdomen protection was adequate, while the pelvis showed good protection. Meanwhile, during the side pole impact, curtain airbags met the fitment requirements and the pole impact test was performed in a version with side head protection airbags showing good protection to the head, abdomen and pelvis and marginal protection to the chest.
Furthermore, ESC is standard, and the performance shown in the test was acceptable according to Global NCAP’s latest requirements, granting both sedans a five-star safety rating for adult occupant protection.
For child protection, the seat for 3-year and 18-month children could prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering full protection. While during the side impact, both Child Restraint System's (CRS) offered full side impact protection.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, noted that safety has always been part of the company’s DNA and that it continues to be a focus with its current and future product portfolio. Notably, the SUVs under the project, the Kushaq and the Taigun, also received a five-star safety rating for adult and child occupant protection.
“The full five-star rating by Global NCAP for both Adult and Child Occupant Protection received by all four vehicles produced on our MQB-A0-IN platform reaffirms the Group’s INDIA 2.0 success story,” Arora added.
Christian Cahn von Seelen, Executive Director, Sales, Marketing and Digital, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, said, “We are proud to have raised the bar in terms of safety standards with each new vehicle we introduce.”
