A vehicle that is synonymous with Škoda Auto since its entry into India, the Skoda Octavia has crossed a significant milestone in its journey in the country. The company has announced that the Octavia has crossed the 101,111 units sales mark in India since its launch in 2001.
Moreover, Octavia now holds the distinction of being among the top longest-running nameplates in continuous sale currently in India, the company noted.
The name ‘Octavia’ was used first in 1959, making it the eighth car to be launched by Skoda Auto post World War II, and hence the name Octavia which denotes the number ‘8’. Globally the car has sold over 7.5 million units in all body styles, engines and iterations.
It was with the Octavia A4 that Skoda Auto had entered the Indian market in 2001, followed by its vRS variant in 2004 with a turbo-charged petrol engine, a first in the Indian market. Later in 2005 the company launched the facelift version of the vehicle with the Laura nameplate, while retailing the earlier model till 2010.
The Octavia name made its entry back in the Indian market in its A7 model series form in 2013 followed by vRS 230 in 2017 and the vRS 245 in 2020.
Currently in its A8 model series avatar, which was launched in 2021, the vehicle has sold a total of 1,915 units in FY22. The company claims that the model also hit the record of being the largest selling car in India via the Parts and Components (CKD) route.
