Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has announced a milestone achievement with its sub-4-metre SUV Kylaq securing a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP). This accolade highlights the company’s commitment to locally developing vehicles that adhere to rigorous safety standards while addressing the needs of Indian consumers.

The Bharat NCAP programme, introduced by the Indian government, evaluates the safety of vehicles based on stringent crash test protocols. The Kylaq emerged as the safest internal combustion engine (ICE) car in the sub-4-metre segment, achieving 30.88 points out of 32 (97%) for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points (92%) for child occupant protection. These results underscore the robust engineering and safety features of the Kylaq, a vehicle designed and developed specifically for Indian conditions.

The Kylaq’s stellar performance follows Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s legacy of safety excellence. The group’s earlier models, including the Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus, and Skoda Kushaq, have all achieved 5-star safety ratings under Global NCAP’s stringent crash test protocols.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, stated “The Kylaq’s 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP reflects our unwavering focus on combining world-class safety standards with cutting-edge technology and manufacturing excellence. With the rising demand for safer cars, this rating empowers consumers to make informed decisions while ensuring protection for their families.”

The Kylaq excelled in multiple crash tests, securing a stable occupant compartment and footwell in the frontal offset barrier test with 15.035 out of 16 points (94%). It also achieved 15.840 out of 16 points in the side-moving deformable barrier test for adult occupant protection. For child occupants, the vehicle earned the maximum scores in the frontal offset and side-moving barrier tests for 1.5 and 3-year-old children. Additionally, it received top marks in the recommended child seat assessment and 9 out of 13 points in the vehicle-based assessment.
