Smallest EV SUV
Skoda has taken the wraps off its smallest EV SUV in the form of the Epiq. Measuring in at 4.1-meters, it's smaller than even the Kushaq and finds a place in the automaker’s hierarchy above the e-Citigo hatchback. More importantly, it hints at the electric vehicle that Skoda has announced for India which it will launch in mid-2026.
Family look is the key
In terms of exterior design, instead of going after the current crop of Skoda cars, the Epiq has taken after the Vision 7S with a similar-looking face, bumpers, overall stance and even the design of the wheels. What is new, however, are the design of the tail lamps with a sort of stylised W-like pattern connecting both ends. While the exterior is radical, the cabin is more conventional with a minimalist approach being the key to the overall design. You get a free-standing 12.3-inch display for the infotainment system while the instrument cluster is a much smaller 7.0-inch display and hints at Skoda’s future approach to info displays.
Numbers game
The Epiq sports some pretty good numbers, the top of which is a claimed range of over 400km, a figure that should result in about 250-300km in the real world. It is 4.1 metres long with a boot of 400 litres. This being a Skoda, we expect large swathes of practicality like the wireless phone charging slot that can also be used a vertical storage space.
India potential
Skoda has officially confirmed a budget EV for the Indian market and this car as it is makes a compelling case for it to be that car. If Skoda targets the 15-22 lakh price range, then this product can arrive as is, obviously with a large degree of localisation to keep costs in check. It will help Skoda compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, Maruti EvX, Toyota Urban concept, MG ZS EV and a future model from Honda.
