Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVWI) has announced to have commenced the exports for its latest sedan, Virtus. Interestingly, the first shipment of 3,000 units of the Virtus is being sent to Mexico from Mumbai port.

According to a press release from SAVWI, the group currently exports its India-made vehicles to 44 countries, including South America, Central America, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, the GCC countries, and the Caribbean region.

The export programme for the group started in 2011 with the Vento being sent for the South African market. Notably, by June 2022, the group had exported over 550,000 cars, with Mexico being the largest export market for SAVWI followed by South Africa and Central American countries (Columbia, Ecuador, Argentina), and ASEAN countries.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director, SAVWI, said, “With this move, we are closer to realising our aim of making India an export hub for the VW group globally, which is a significant pillar of our India strategy. The growth in our export numbers testifies to the success of the India 2.0 programme.”

The group has launched four products under the project, namely, Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, along with VW Taigun and Virtus.

Each product under the project sits on the MQB-A0-IN platform and comes with two engine options, 1.0L TSI petrol mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic and 1.5L TSI petrol paired with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT.
