Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) has officially commenced production of its latest compact SUV Kylaq at its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The Chakan plant’s production capacity has been expanded by 30%, now reaching 255,000 units annually. The manufacturing lines operate at a remarkable pace of 40 jobs per hour (JPH), reflecting significant operational efficiencies. These advancements ensure a seamless production process for the Kylaq and support SAVWIPL’s ambitions for a stronger market presence in India.

Engineered specifically for the Indian market, Kylaq is built on the MQB-A0-IN platform known for its adaptability and strength. This platform has enabled high localisation levels, reducing production costs and improving turnaround times. The vehicle integrates features such as bamboo fibre-based cabin materials, highlighting Skoda's commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing practices.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, stated that the SUV is tailored to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers. Locally manufactured, the Kylaq supports India's Make-in-India mission while maintaining the Group's core DNA of safety and superior driving dynamics. Arora also noted the positive reception the Kylaq received during its world premiere, emphasising the model’s potential to resonate strongly with Indian car buyers.

Andreas Dick, Skoda Auto’s Board Member for Production and Logistics, highlighted the collaborative efforts between teams in India and the Czech Republic in executing the project. Every aspect of the Kylaq, from design to production, has been meticulously planned to meet rigorous quality and efficiency standards. These measures aim to position the Kylaq as a competitive offering in the compact SUV segment, strengthening Skoda’s foothold in the Indian automotive market.

The Kylaq will launch with a starting price of INR 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), offering robust engineering, high safety standards, and an appealing design. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2025, with SAVWIPL simultaneously expanding its sales and service network. Plans include reaching 350 outlets across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities by the end of 2025, ensuring accessibility for customers nationwide.
