Siemens and Sony Corporation have announced a partnership to introduce a new solution that integrates Siemens' Xcelerator portfolio of industry software with Sony's innovative XR head-mounted display (HMD), the SRH-S1.

Siemens' software and the comprehensive digital twin enable companies to optimize their design, engineering and manufacturing processes to turn today's ideas into the sustainable products of the future - from chips to entire systems, from product to process, across all industries.

At the Realize LIVE event in Las Vegas, Seiya Amatatsu, Head of Sony’s XR Technology Development Division, highlighted the critical role Siemens’ NX software played in developing the SRH-S1. This state-of-the-art XR headset features high-quality 4K OLED Microdisplays and intuitive controllers, enabling seamless interaction with 3D objects. Since 2015, Sony has accelerated its product engineering using the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, achieving remarkable productivity improvements.

“Sony succeeded in implementing NX on the fastest schedule globally, enhancing our design process productivity by 25%. Despite these advancements, I aimed for further evolution with a product that supports direct editing in an immersive environment. This vision was realised through our collaboration with Siemens, resulting in the development of the SRH-S1, which enables quicker market entry for innovative products,” said Amatatsu.

The SRH-S1 is a cornerstone of the forthcoming NX Immersive Designer, an integrated solution combining Siemens’ product engineering software, NX, with Sony’s pioneering XR technology. This combination is set to enhance immersive design and collaborative product engineering.

“At Sony, we are dedicated to empowering creators. Our SRH-S1 headset and controllers allow for intuitive creation in a fully immersive environment, facilitating real-time collaboration and innovation,” explained Hirohito Kondo, Deputy General Manager of Sony's XR Business Development Division.

“The seamless integration of hardware and software provides designers and engineers with natural ways to interact with the Digital Twin. This is not just about viewing designs but engaging in meaningful hands-on engineering. The high image quality, precise controls, and comfortable headset enable better collaboration, enhanced engineering, and faster innovation,” Kondo added.
