As part of a consortium along with Rail Vikas Nigam, Siemens has announced that it has received two separate orders from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation for Surat Metro Phase-1 (over 40 kilometres covering 38 stations and two depots) and Ahmedabad Metro Phase-2 (over 28 kilometres covering 23 stations and a depot). Siemens’s share as part of the consortium is INR 678 crore.
A press release from the company noted that it will provide project management and rail electrification technologies, including advanced power supply and distribution systems. In addition, Siemens will provide advanced digital solutions such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for both metros.
Gunjan Vakharia, Head- Mobility Business, Siemens, noted that the metro projects will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life and the overall growth of the cities and region.
