The apex industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) recently celebrated its 6th edition of their biennial fest, the United Nations Global Road Safety Week. The safety week took place between 17th to 23rd May 2021.

The theme for the event was ‘Streets for Life’. In alliance with Delhi Traffic Police, SIAM contacted more than 2,000 current students from 25 schools across Delhi NCR.

The week-long programme had multiple events like lectures and discussions centred around road safety to train students on safety standards and protocols for road mobility.

Apart from the lectures and discussions, various other competitions and participation activities have also been conducted through virtual platforms.

According to a WHO report, low-speed roads can save lives because a 5% reduction in average vehicle speed can significantly reduce fatal accidents. Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM, said that the event encouraged people to be aware of the risks of driving and ensure that our roads are unobstructed and safe for everyone.

SIAM has been closely associated with Delhi Traffic Police for the last two decades. Through this association, they have implemented many initiatives and worked to raise people’s awareness of road safety.

In view of the current pandemic and the duties performed by the police & traffic workers during this pandemic, SIAM urged all road users to abide by road safety rules and regulations and build safe roads for everyone.
