Key reports unveiled on HR trends and skill development in the automotive industry at the SIAM HR Conclave.


SIAM Automotive HR Conclave mobility outlook

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) hosted the SIAM Automotive HR Conclave under the theme 'Shifting Gears: HR Strategies for a Disruptive Automotive Landscape.' The event brought together government officials, CHROs, HR professionals, consultants, and academic leaders to discuss emerging trends in human resources and strategies to drive the automotive industry's growth. These discussions are aligned with India’s vision for a developed nation, Viksit Bharat, by 2047.

Two reports were launched during the conclave: the SIAM Handbook for Service Advisers and Service Technicians, in partnership with the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), and Automotive Talent in Top Gear – Industry Report on HR Trends in the Automotive Sector, developed with Deloitte India. These publications highlight the need for skilling and HR transformation in the rapidly evolving automotive sector.

Charles JS Walter, Chairman of the SIAM Human Capital Group and Head of HR at Hyundai Motor India Ltd., emphasised the importance of embracing disruption in the sector. He noted, “Disruptions have reshaped our landscape, and we have embraced these changes. This conclave is a reflection of how disruption has become central to our culture and success.'

Vinod Aggarwal, Immediate Past President of SIAM and Managing Director & CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd, highlighted the role of human capital in driving growth within India’s automotive sector. 'India’s economy, now valued at $3.7 trillion, is growing rapidly, and the automotive sector plays a crucial role. The industry's contribution to 15% of the country's GST and its INR 20 lakh crore turnover shows the importance of nurturing talent and innovation to meet future challenges,” he said.

The conclave also featured engaging panel discussions, including topics such as 'Fuelling Innovation – Building Talent Capability in the Automotive Industry' and 'Skilling Up for the Future of Automotive.' These sessions underlined the importance of up skilling and fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace to meet the automotive sector’s future demands.

Industry leaders like Raja Radhakrishnan from Ashok Leyland, Rohit Thakur from Mahindra & Mahindra, and Amrita Ganguly from Tata Motors, among others, shared their insights on preparing a future-ready workforce. They emphasised the critical role of diversity, inclusion, and continuous skill development in transforming the automotive industry for the years ahead.
