Shivamogga Gets New Airport

The airport, built at a cost of INR 450 crore, can accommodate 300 passengers an hour.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated Karnataka’s new Shivamogga airport on Monday. Spread across over 758 acres of land, the new airport has been built at an investment of INR 450 crore.

In addition to the inauguration of the new airport, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for two railway projects, the Shivamogga – Shikaripura – Ranebennur new Railway line and Koteganguru Railway coach depot, and several road development projects totalling over INR 215 crore. 

During his address at the inauguration of the new airport, the Prime Minister stated that India had only 74 airports in 2014, and since then, the number of airports has doubled to 148, including the new Shivamogga airport.

The new Shivamogga airport can accommodate single-aisle jetliners in the Airbus A320/Boeing 737 class. The airport’s 4340 sq meter passenger terminal can handle 300 passengers per hour. The airport is also capable of night operations.
