Royal Enfield has entered the electric motorcycle market with the launch of its new brand, Flying Flea, inspired by the company’s iconic 1940s model. Announced in Milan ahead of EICMA, the brand introduces two upcoming models, the classic-styled FF-C6 and the scrambler-styled FF-S6 aimed at urban mobility. While this move signals Royal Enfield’s attempt to embrace the electric future, the release notably lacks concrete data on the new motorcycles’ specifications. Guess we have to wait.

Flying Flea, inspired by the lightweight, all-terrain bikes used in WWII, reinterprets the spirit of exploration and mobility that defines Royal Enfield’s legacy. And since the brand is not exactly a byword for lightweight motorcycles, it’ll be interesting to see how they make the Flea light yet with range long enough to be segmented as ‘City+’.

The new Flying Flea brand is set to launch its first two models, the FF-C6 and FF-S6, by early 2026 each targeted at urban and “city+” mobility. The FF-C6 features a classic aesthetic with modern EV capabilities, while the scrambler-styled FF-S6 brings a rugged design suited for versatile, urban commuting. The focus on city-friendly EVs aligns with the company’s vision to provide sustainable, accessible transport options, embodying both functionality and style.

Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors, parent company of Royal Enfield, stated that the Flying Flea is an opportunity for Royal Enfield to reimagine itself, creating motorcycles that not only pay homage to the brand’s history but also meet the needs of modern riders.

The FF-C6 model integrates a custom-built vehicle control unit (VCU) that manages performance through an array of ride modes, optimising the riding experience based on user preferences and road conditions. This VCU, along with bespoke software, supports 200,000 ride mode combinations, allowing riders to tailor the bike's throttle, braking, and energy regeneration for diverse urban settings.

Royal Enfield’s hinted at extensive investment in EV technology. The company has dedicated significant resources to develop a compact and lightweight forged aluminium frame and magnesium battery case, which contribute to the bike's agility and durability. Moreover, Flying Flea motorcycles come with lean angle-sensing ABS and cruise control, balancing safety with a seamless, enjoyable riding experience. Each model also includes connectivity features, supported by 28 patents filed in recent months that provide riders with real-time updates and diagnostics.

B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, explained that Flying Flea represents a “fresh start” for the company, embracing sustainable urban mobility while preserving the brand’s distinctive identity. The company has invested heavily in research and development, assembling a dedicated team of over 200 engineers and establishing an EV manufacturing plant in Chennai, India, to support Flying Flea’s production.

For those interested in following the brand’s progress, Royal Enfield has created dedicated Flying Flea social media channels and a subscription service to provide updates on new releases and developments.
