The French carmaker Renault India on Monday announced that it has partnered with CSC e-Governance Services (Common Service Centres) to support Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan (PMGDISHA).
A press release from the company said that the collaboration aims to empower residents in rural areas by educating them to operate computers or digital devices such as laptops, surf the internet, access government websites and banking services, and make digital payments.
Under this partnership, the carmaker has handed over five cars to CSC e-Governance Services to upskill people in rural and semi-urban areas across India and help them develop vocational and professional skills. Over 600 village panchayats are expected to be covered in a year, the release said.
These vehicles will help disseminate information about learning courses and assist CSC teams in delivering training to teach financial and digital skills in rural regions, allowing them to engage in converting India into a digitally empowered society actively. Furthermore, the VLEs (Village Level Entrepreneurs) will use these vehicles to raise awareness about Covid-19 proper behaviour and protocols.
Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said that this is an important step forward in rural integration since it aligns with the government’s goal of developing the rural economy and empowering the rural and semi-urban sectors not only financially but also through skilling and building knowledge capacities of the masses.
