RBI Appoints Venu Srinivasan As Non-Official Director On Central Board

India’s central bank and regulatory body, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has announced the appointment of Venu Srinivasan, Chairman Emeritus, TVS Motor Company as the non-official director on the central board of the bank.

Srinivasan graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree in business administration. He became the CEO of Sundaram-Clayton, TVS Motor’s holding company, in 1979, the same year the company was founded. 

When he was at the helm of Sundaram Clayton and TVS Motor Company, both companies received the Deming Prize. While the former became the first company in India to get the prize, the latter became the first 2W maker in the world to get the coveted award. 

In November 2019, he was conferred with the prestigious Deming Prize at a ceremony held in Tokyo, making him the first industrialist from India to be bestowed this award for his contributions in the field of total quality management (TQM).

Srinivasan was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the President of India in November 2021, for his distinguished services in the field of trade and industry. Earlier, he was conferred with the coveted Padma Shri Award for ‘distinguished service in trade and industry,’ in 2010.
